In recent years, Turks and Caicos Islands have earned a reputation for being a culinary destination. A growing number of fine dining establishments have dominated the local dining scene, leaving some visitors wondering if it is possible to visit this exclusive destination without spending their entire vacation budget on meals.
The answer is yes! There are a number of excellent Turks and Caicos restaurants on Providenciales that serve delicious food at affordable prices.
One of the first places we recommend is the Island Fish Fry. This local event introduces visitors to island food and music every Thursday night at the Bight Park (next to the Gansevoort Resort). The Fish Fry has quickly grown in popularity. You can enjoy a meal of fresh caught fish or chicken, rice, local veggies and more at very affordable prices, and be treated to some great entertainment at the same time.
Other local favourites, particularly for lunch, include Da Conch Shack and Bugaloos. Our Resort Ambassador would be happy to give you directions to these affordable establishments that serve generous portion sizes and true island ambiance.
Blue Haven Resort and Marina, located in the quiet Leeward neighbourhood, offers a number of opportunities to save money when dining out on Providenciales. Start by taking a free shuttle from the Alexandra Resort to Blue Haven, and then head to Salt Bar & Grill for Happy Hour, which is offered from 5pm until 8pm each day and includes beer for $4.50, house wine for $6.00 per glass and select spirits for $6.50 (including tax and service charge).
Then stroll over to the resort’s Fire & Ice Restaurant, which features a three-course summer menu for $45++ per person.
Before you head back to the Alexandra Resort, stop in at MARKET (LINK) (open till 8pm daily), a deli, café and grocery store, where you can pick up ready-made meals and gourmet grocery items to enjoy in the comfort of your suite or on the spacious patio or deck of your room at the Alexandra Resort.
The Alexandra’s own Mango Reef also offers terrific value, from their optional B&B menu to the daily happy hour at the beachfront bar. Mango Reef’s menu is extensive and includes a number of dishes that are reasonably priced, particularly by island standards.
