Turks and Caicos Vacation Packing Tips

Packing for a Caribbean vacation can be fun as you assemble tropical outfits and accessories, and plan the occasions and events where you will wear your Caribbean wardrobe.  But with airlines charging more for luggage, it’s also important to pack “light and right.”

Here is a list of must-have’s for your Turks and Caicos vacation:

  • Sandals
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Sun hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Beach cover up
  • Swimwear
  • Wrap or light sweater for evenings
  • Smart casual resort wear
  • Athletic wear

Equally important is what to leave at home.  Since the nightlife tends to be low-key on Providenciales, there is no need to pack apparel suited to a night at the disco or a formal party.  Topless sunbathing is not permitted in Turks and Caicos so ladies should bring both bikini pieces.

Luggage delays are not uncommon in the Caribbean, so take care to properly pack your carry-on too. In addition to the usual advice about paperwork, jewelry, medical items and cameras in your carry-on, pack a bathing suit, cover up and one versatile outfit so you have something to wear in the event your luggage is lost.  Also leave space to put some of your heavier travel clothing away once you arrive at the airport in Turks and Caicos.  You can use this extra space to pack things you purchase on Providenciales for the trip home.

We find many of our return visitors are able to pack what they need in a carry on suitcase for a one-week vacation.  Since washers and dryers are located in most of the suites at the Alexandra, packing light is made even easier.

Finally, a note for parents travelling with small children.  We have lots of beach toys, DVD’s and books that you can borrow from the resort, as well as a free daily activity program to keep your children happy and busy.  You won’t need to pack toys for a stay at the Alexandra Resort. Remember hats, sunscreen, swimsuits and rash guards for your children, and child friendly mosquito repellant to apply at dusk.  If you are renting a car, please note that most car rental agencies on the island supply car seats, but they can be limited in supply during peak season and are costly to rent.

If you are concerned about the availability of the snacks and food items that your children like to eat, contact our Concierge prior to your visit.  He can arrange for a pre-arrival grocery order to be delivered to your suite, and ensure that the items your children like are in the kitchen when they arrive.
